THE HURRICANE HARVEY STORIES:
August 27, 2017 - The juxtaposition of tragedy and loss, with strength and courage, were repeated throughout the stories shared within our community. Renata tells of a painful deja vu - having "survived" Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Harvey and the subsequent loss of her unborn children - in both situations. Her reporting of domestic violence, the loss of "everything" from Hurricane Harvey, and the repeated miscarriage might be more than most of us could endure. But Renata focused on helping others (elders) and walked away from these tragic events with a reassurance, "...they made me a stronger woman....because I'm still in school. I'm fighting for my kids and myself." We are more than individuals - we are a community! Thank you for sharing your story with us Renata, and we are pained by your losses, while encouraged by your "fight." Keep the faith.
