HCC Central Art Gallery celebrates the opening of its 30th season with a
reception, Tuesday, September 2, 5:30 to 7:30, with a new exhibit, Darcy Rosenberger: Apartment Studio.
Darcy
Rosenberger titled her new exhibit in tribute to the 420 square foot
efficiency apartment that is both living space and the work space where
she created the large scale drawings featured in the show. These
hyper-detailed images deal with ideas of connection - networks, neuron
bonds, crystalline structures – and with the way our eyes seek and
create patterns. Those patterns may lead vision inward, contracting to
find the finest detail, or outward, expanding to explore concepts far
beyond the edge of the page.
Rosenberger lives and works in
Houston, Texas. Her immersion in visual art began at the High School for
the Performing and Visual Arts. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in
Sculpture from the University of Houston where she studied under Paul
Kittelson and Jillian Conrad. She has tutored sculpture at Houston
Community College and taught art classes at River Oaks Elementary. Her
work has been exhibited at the Contemporary Arts Museum of Houston,
Fresh Arts, Box13 Art Space, Lawndale Arts Center, The Joanna, Domy
Books, Skydive Art Space, The Foundry, Blaffer Art Museum, and the
Matchbox Gallery at Rice University. She was a finalist for the 2013
Hunting Art Prize.
The second room in The Gallery will host another show, Prem Dewan: Ceramics,
an exhibit of pieces by an advanced student in our popular ceramics
program. He has been studying ceramics with us for 12 years.
The exhibits will be in the Fine Art Center Gallery through September 26.
The Gallery is located in the Fine Arts Center, 3517 Austin at Holman.
Gallery hours: Mon-Thurs: 9-9, Fri & Sat 9-3.
