Recording Presentations
Recorded presentations are essential in education institutions. With Kaltura Capture or Desktop Recording, you can record audio, your desktop, your webcam, or a combination of all three features within your Course shell. Let’s start by selecting My Media from within your course. On the My Media page, click on Add New and from the drop-down menu, choose Desktop Recorder. This will take you to the desktop recording page where you will have the option to download the Kaltura Capture application for Windows or Mac. Once you download the application, you will be prompted to install the application on your computer. Once the application installs, Kaltura Capture will open. If the application does not open automatically after the install, simply go back to the My Media page and select Desktop Recorder again and you will be prompted to Open Kaltura Capture. Within the application, you will see the red record button, the icons for screen recording. This allows you to record your full screen or a select area of your screen. You can adjust the selected area, or you can use the preset settings. When using a selected area, be sure to confirm your space. Next is the camera icon and it allows you to record your camera or webcam on your computer. When the camera is on, you will see the captured media in this space. And the microphone icon allows you to record audio. You have the option of using your computer’s microphone or an external microphone. Remember, you have the option of recording a presentation that will record your desktop, audio, and your camera-webcam. You can also have the option of record a presentation that will record your camera and audio. Or you can record just audio, only your desktop, or your camera only. Just select the device you would like to capture. To begin recording, click the red recording button. You are now recording. A display will show on your screen with the options to stop the recording, pause the recording, or cancel the recording. It will show the length of the recording, the microphone icon, and the editing icon. The editing icon gives you access to tools you can use to help enhance your presentation. You have the drawing tool, the text box for typing on your screen, and the arrow tool. The select toll allows you to move the objects. The color pad can be used to brighten your presentation. You also have a whiteboard that you can implement. And there’s the delete icon used to remove content from your presentation. Once you have stopped the recording, your presentation will be saved in your My Media. You are now ready to record presentations using Kaltura Capture.
